Beauty in Imperfection
I think of my work on myself kind of like the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken objects are repaired with fillings of gold or other precious substances.
This gives the item beauty and allows it to continue to function. The damage is thought of as part of the item's history and adds grace and character, it's to be recognized and sublimated rather than concealed or the item discarded.
